Subject: Kenny Terry's anniversary

Hi, Tim.

I just today discovered that Kenny had died, then realized today is
the 1st anniversary of his death.

I played harmonica with Kenny in West Tennessee, for beer, when the
Dude Ranch Boys (which included one very cute blonde mandolin player)
would come to Jackson, Tn, to play at a local venue I arranged for
them to make a little extra cash. The place would be crammed. We had
met through our involvement with the Bicentennial Wagon Train to
Pennsylvania. I was a wagon driver and he played at one of the
celebration parties on July 4, 1976, then moved to be closer to
Nashville.

I also knew Ricky Rebel, and have his email. Ricky will be sorry to
hear the news.

Thank you for maintaining the great memorial for Kenny, which I found
through a Google search. We were pretty close; he even gave me his
"Will the Circle Be Unbroken" double album after he put all the songs
on it to heart.
I was around (but not present) when he was recording that 45 rpm you
posted.
If you listen closely you can tell he was singing some or even all of
the parts, melody and harmony. I believe he was all of the
instruments as well, re-recording in his garage/sound studio he
constructed. I may even have a copy somewhere, no doubt with the
"Circle" album.

Did he tell you about when the propane tank rail car blew up right
outside his garage in Waverly? He had to single-handedly push his
blistering used cars (VWs, of course) away from the flames. Sixteen
persons died in that tragic event.

I now live in Tokyo and tried to get him to move here to enliven the
bluegrass scene here in 1983, but I suspect, as you know, that he
couldn't stand the thought of living in a place where people eat raw
fish. Kenny ate "only hamburgers and steak" by his own proud
admission....

Best wishes from Tokyo,

Hunter Brumfield
